| Plan Your Adventures! |
Mix and match these half day adventures
to suit your mood! Explore and
enjoy! Ask your host for information
about any particular interests
that you would like to pursue
while here. Of course, just relaxing
on the beach or in the suite by
the fireplace is ok too!!!! |
 |
| 1. Explore
the beach (tide dependent) |
| Relax with
the morning paper and your coffee.
Walk along the seashore edge.
Skip stones. Meditate on the shoreline.
Do yoga. Swim during the hot days
of summer. |
 |
| 2. Hike
to the top |
| Bring your
boots and, from your suite, hike
to the top of Mt. Erskine, Saltspring’s
most recently created park. On
windy days, watch the ravens play
games! Find the fairy doors (we’re
not kidding!). |
 |
| 3. Wander
through the Saturday Market |
| Described
in one guide as the “mother
of all markets”, the Saltspring
Market has something for everyone!
Market vendors must sell locally
made products and the variety
is outstanding. Plus, for your
meals at home, pick up Susan and
Julia’s Moonstruck organic
cheese, David Wood’s goat
cheese, Heather’s bread,
Rosalee’s veggies, Ron’s
smoked salmon, and much more.
The potstickers cooked on the
spot are a locals’ favourite. |
 |
| 4. Walk
around Ganges |
| Be prepared
to enjoy the many shops in Ganges.
Wander through artisan galleries,
book stores, the chocolate and gelati shop (to die for), and
home and kitchen shops. Stop for
a latte or sushi. Have lunch at
one of the fine restaurants or
a local brew at one of the pubs. |
 |
| 5.
Rent a kayak for a few hours |
| There are
3 kayak rental companies on the
island, including one that will
bring your kayak to a nearby beach
that has easier access than our
private beach. Ask your host for
recommendations about where to
paddle. Bring your sun lotion
and a hat! |
 |
| 6. Book a
massage |
| Sore muscles from too much time at the computer? Call one of the
island's many massage therapists for an appointment to melt your
aches away. |
 |
| 7. Tour
the north end of Saltspring |
| Visit the
studios en route, including a
favourite, the Blue Horse Gallery.
Gardeners, make sure you stop
at Thimble Farms, a native plant
nursery. Plan to have lunch at
the Raven Café in Fernwood
and while there, walk out on the
government dock to see Trincomali
Channel. |
 |
| 8. Tour
the south end of Saltspring |
| Two incredible
provincial parks await you. Bring
your walking shoes and staff so
you can explore Burgoyne Bay and
Ruckle Provincial Parks. Walk
along waterfront trails and savour
the garry oak meadows with their
blue camas flowers in the spring.
Plan to have lunch, tea or dinner
at the Rock Salt Cafe,
a locals’ favourite hangout
in Fulford Harbour. |

Things
to do: |
| |
| Eating out: |
Saltspring
has many fine restaurants. Often music is
combined with wonderful food. The best thing
to do is to get here, go through the menus
in the B&B’s binder and then check
out the local entertainment listings.
|
 |
| Music and
arts: |
| Ditto the above. We
only can say that Saltspring is home to the
famous, the about to be famous, and those
who should be famous but who don’t want
to be. The music and theatre scenes are lively
and creative. If you are here in the winter,
the Folk Club series is not to be missed.
Our theatre/arts centre, ArtSpring, hosts
an ever changing celebration of art, music
and theater. Home studios abound and there
is a self-guided studio tour that takes you
to see some of our many fine craftspeople
at work. |
| |
|
| 9. Take
a side tour |
| Saltspring has many side roads to
explore and many more galleries to visit. Two favourites
are on the road to Long Harbour from Ganges. The Woodworks Gallery features finely crafted wood art
and furniture. Stone Ridge Pottery gallery is a
showcase of cutting edge ceramic art. Stop at one of the local wineries en route for a tasting experience! |
 |
| 10. Take
a basket making course |
| We’re serious. The baskets
made here are show- stoppers. Learn from gifted
artists and visit the nearby basketry studio. Other
fibre artists also offer courses and studio learning. |
 |
| 11. Farmstands
and Food |
| If food is your passion, find the farmgates and
studios that will fill your picnic basket. Cheeses,
bread, wine, apples, veggies…..what more could
a person want for a delicious picnic at one of the
island’s many parks. Or, savour your picnic
by the fire at home!If you want a guided tour of Saltspring’s tasty food and fabulous art stops, join a safari! |
| |
| 12. Swing your clubs |
Spend a morning on the links. Saltspring boasts 2 scenic golf courses: the Saltspring Golf Club is just 5 minutes away, and the Blackburn Meadows Golf Club is pesticide free. Both are open to the public. Reservations recommended. Bring your clubs and enjoy!
